Special Olympics 2003:
Deutsche Bank (Cayman) Limited sponsored the Cayman Island Special
Olympics Team in the 2003 World Summer Games which were held in
Dublin, Ireland. The Special Olympic World Games are held every
four years and allow athletes with learning disabilities to take
the spotlight. 2003 was the first year that the SO competition was
held outside the United States and the Cayman Islands team joined
approximately 7,500 athletes from more than 160 countries.
"It's a partnership that reflects our philosophy of focus
and commitment", said Tim Godber, Executive Director at Deutsche's
Cayman office. "For the past 19 years Deutsche Bank has maintained
a community based presence in Cayman by participating in sponsorship
and this pledge represents our utmost commitment. Working together
with the Special Olympics we will continue to explore opportunities
to recognise our deserving athletes and reward their efforts."
The SOCI team returned home victorious with a total of 17 medals.
