Craig Douglas was hailed the hero of the day on Saturday 11th August
as the Deutsche Bank Offshore sponsored Jersey cricket team recorded
their 10th consecutive inter-insular victory at the KGV ground in
Guernsey.
Batting at number eight behind an impressive line-up of specialist
batsmen, Douglas struck a magnificent 66 to rescue a floundering
Jersey innings and win the man-of-the-match award.
At the other end, the Jersey captain Dave Gorman, who won the crucial
toss and elected to bat first, supported Douglas as Jersey posted
218 from their 50 overs.
At one stage during the afternoon however things were not looking
so positive, a brilliant spell of 4 for 29 from Guernsey paceman
Mark Culverwell reduced the Jersey team to 94 for 6.
However, Steve Carlyon restored some confidence among the Jersey
team. He marked his return to the Island team with an industrious
41, which included seven fours.
Jersey took just three hours to bowl out their opponents and won
by 50 runs with two overs and three balls to spare.
Deutsche Bank Offshore also sponsored the under 21's and over 40's
Jersey teams.
