On Friday September 26, The Gerard Le Claire
Environmental Trust is holding Green Day 2003 to raise funds for
local environmental projects. This fundraising day is being supported
by Jersey Telecom and Deutsche Bank Offshore.
Jersey companies and schools are being asked to encourage their
employees and pupils to 'GO GREEN'. This can be done in a number
of ways, including running a dress down day or asking people to
wear an item of green clothing in return for making a donation to
the Gerard Le Claire Environmental Trust.
Deutsche Bank Offshore has worked with the Gerard Le Claire Environmental
Trust in connection with the Funky Junk project in local primary
schools and first supported Green Day in June 2002. "We are
fully committed to the promotion of environmental initiatives and
are very pleased to lend our support to the Green Day to deliver
a message to the wider community", said DBO chief executive,
Peter Pichler.
At present the Trust is involved in applications for planting trees
at a number of locations, installing bat boxes across the island,
running innovative environmental awareness-raising projects in schools,
making a film of the internationally recognised conservation area
of the south-east coast, to name but a few.
"All of our Trustees give their time voluntarily and every
penny of the money raised will go towards local environmental projects,
said Sarah le Claire, chairperson of the Trust. "We hope that
many people will even be encouraged to cycle or take the bus to
work on that Friday!"
