The National Gallery has been making great
strides over the past few years to awaken the passion for the visual
arts in our islands. In continuing with this objective it has been
a dream of the Gallery to be able to offer a young Caymanian the
experience of working in the Gallery prior to further education.
Now with the generous sponsorship of Deutsche Bank, The National
Gallery can make the dream of an intern programme a reality.
With funding of CI$14,500.00 from Deutsche Bank for 2004-2005,
The National Gallery has identified and hired their first intern
- Josephine Shibli. Miss Shibli, a recent High School graduate,
will now spend a year working with The National Gallery absorbing
first hand the experiences that are second to none. The sponsorship
of Deutsche Bank will cover her salary and benefits during this
time. She plans to study part time at University College Cayman
Islands for one to two years prior to finishing up with art and
business overseas.
As a group Deutsche Bank around the world is committed to the arts
in each of their many jurisdictions. Sophie Ebanks, Marketing Manager
for Deutsche Bank Cayman states "When we were approached
by Nancy and The National Gallery to be a part of this intern programme,
we were both delighted and honoured. Education and the arts have
long been a focus of Deutsche Bank, and what better way to achieve
this than through education in the arts for our young Caymanians."
Nancy Barnard, Acting Director of The Gallery states "The
experience that a year at the National Gallery will provide in terms
of business and art skills will be second to none, and this internship
will provide another opportunity for the succession of young Caymanians
into the workforce."
Deutsche Bank wishes the Gallery and Miss Shibli great success
in the pilot of this intern programme.
