On Friday 30 September the Gerard Le Claire Environmental Trust
is holding Green Day 2005. This year Green Day is being sponsored
by Deutsche Bank in association with Jersey Telecom and is also
being given the support of Channel 103fm, Jersey’s commercial
radio station.
The objectives of Green Day are twofold: firstly, the Trust aims
to raise awareness by getting people to think about using alternative
forms of transport and prove that individuals can make a difference.
Secondly, Green Day is one of the Trust’s key fund raising
initiatives and enables them to support environmental projects throughout
the year. All the money raised during Green Day is used locally.
This year the day will be centred around St Helier’s Royal
Square where events are being held throughout the day starting at
7.30 when the Peter Mac breakfast show will be broadcast live from
the Square.
The main focus of Green Day is transport and everyone on Jersey
is encouraged to ‘Go Green’ by leaving the car at home
and using alternative, eco-friendly transport. Participants in the
scheme will be able to enter a prize draw to win prizes worth thousands
of pounds by visiting the Royal Square (for more details on entering
please visit the website – www.gerardleclairetrust.org).
A full list of events can be found below.
In addition to the events being held in the Royal Square, many
of the Island’s schools are participating with special events
and all have been given education packs by the Trust. Green Day
has many connotations with the National Curriculum, touching on
areas such as Environment and Sustainability, Human Health and Safety,
Civil Responsibility and Communities.
Globally, Deutsche Bank is committed to working on behalf of the
communities in which we live and work with the same passion with
which we endeavour to achieve only the best on behalf of our clients.
We are proud therefore to support the Gerard Le Claire Environmental
Trust, and in particular Green Day, which makes a real impact in
raising awareness of the issues of sustainability of our environment
whilst helping to educate the children and young people of our community.
