THE future of the Rotary
Christmas Tree of Joy has been secured with a five-year sponsorship
agreement from Cable & Wireless and Deutsche Bank.
And this year advances a
long and much-loved island tradition as the SeaGuernsey Mast becomes
the basis of the tree with an elegant and innovative lighting
spectacle. Had the original Christmas Tree of Joy been placed
on the St Julian’s Avenue Roundabout, the SeaGuernsey Mast
would have dwarfed it so organisers at Rotary have worked with
their sponsors to transform the site and ensure it remains an
attractive icon for the festive season.
‘The Christmas
Tree of Joy has always been an expression of the various charity
initiatives that Rotary carries out at this time of year,’
said Terry Ferbrache of Rotary. ‘This was something
we did not want to lose so Cable & Wireless, Deutsche Bank
and Rotary have taken the idea forward to create a magical and
iconic image in the heart of St Peter Port. Rather than being
an obstacle, the SeaGuernsey Mast has created an opportunity.’
