Offshore structures have been used
extensively to facilitate a range of capital markets orientated transactions.
Over the years, it has been recognised that the successful development
of asset repackaging depends crucially on a stable, tax neutral environment
which allows special purpose vehicles to be created for such transactions.
More recently, tax-advantaged centres such as Ireland and the Netherlands
have been used in order that originators can access tax benefits arising
from the network of double taxation agreements such centres have entered
